A Closer Look at Essential Accent Items

Essential accent items are decorative pieces or accessories that add visual interest and personality to a space. They can be anything from a statement piece of artwork to a unique vase or sculpture.

Choosing the right key accent items for your space can help tie together the overall aesthetic and make it feel complete. Here are some tips to consider when selecting your key accent items:

Color scheme: Choose accent items that complement or contrast with the dominant colors in your space. This can help create a cohesive look.

Think about scale: Choose accent items that are appropriately sized for your space. Oversized or undersized items can throw off the balance of a room.

Mix textures: Incorporating different textures can add depth and interest to a space. Consider items with varying materials such as wood, metal, and fabric.

Personalise: Choose accent items that reflect your personal style and interests. This can help make your space feel unique and more like home.

Don't overdo it: While accent items are important, it's essential that you don't go overboard. Choose a few key pieces that really stand out and complement the overall aesthetic of your space.

RUGS

Rugs are an excellent choice for adding an accent to a room, because they can add color, texture, and pattern to a space while also providing softness and a cosy, comfortable vibe.

ACCENT CHAIRS

An accent chair is a piece of furniture that is designed to stand out and add character to a room. It's usually a decorative piece that complements the overall style of the space. Think about the function of the chair - will it be used primarily for decoration? Or do you plan on sitting in it frequently? This can help determine the level of comfort and support you need in the chair.

WALL ART

Wall art can be used as an accent in a room by choosing a piece that complements the color palette and style of the space. The type of art that works best can vary depending on the overall style and color scheme of the room. However, some popular options for wall art accents include:

Abstract or geometric prints: These types of prints can add a modern touch to a room and can work well as a statement piece.

Black and white photography: This classic style of wall art can add a sophisticated and timeless touch to any space.

Textured pieces: Wall art that has depth and texture, such as woven tapestries or mixed media pieces, can add visual interest and dimension to a room.

Bold, colorful prints: If the room has a neutral color scheme, a colorful piece of wall art can serve as a focal point and add a pop of color.

SCULPTURES & ORNAMENTS

Sculptures and ornaments can be used within home decor to add visual interest, texture, and personality to a space. They can be placed on shelves, tables, and even hung on walls to create a unique and personalised look.

When choosing sculptures and ornaments for a specific room, it's important to consider the size and style of the piece in relation to the room's overall aesthetic. Here are some tips to help you choose the right size and style:

Consider the size of the room: If the room is small, choose smaller sculptures or ornaments that won't overpower the space. If the room is larger, you can choose larger pieces that will make more of an impact.

Think about the style of the room: The style of the sculpture or ornament should complement the overall style of the room. For example, if the room has a modern design, choose a sculpture with clean lines and a contemporary feel.

Consider the color scheme: The colors of the sculpture or ornament should work well with the colors in the room. If the room has a neutral palette, consider choosing a piece with a pop of color to add interest.

Think about placement: Consider where you will be placing the sculpture or ornament in the room. If it will be placed on a shelf or table, make sure it's not too tall or wide for the space.

Personal preference: Ultimately, your personal taste should guide your decision. Choose a sculpture or ornament that speaks to you and adds to the overall ambiance of the room.

By considering all of these factors, you will be able to confidently choose sculptures and ornaments that will enhance the look and feel of your space.

VASE

Vase can help you to add elegance and style to your space with minimal effort. They are one of my favourite accent items. They are a simplistic way to add texture and visual interest to any room.

CURTAINS

Curtains can be used as an accent in a room by choosing a bold color or pattern that complements the overall color scheme and style of the space. They're also a brilliant way to create a focal point by hanging them on a feature wall or using them to frame a window.

Some people prefer to match their curtains to the wall color, while others prefer to create contrast. Here are some things to consider when exploring both options:

Matching the wall color: This can create a cohesive and calming look in a room. If you have a bold or busy wallpaper or paint color, matching your curtains can help tone it down and create a more harmonious space. However, it can also be a bit boring or predictable.

Contrasting the wall color: This can add visual interest and drama to a room. If you have a neutral or light-colored wall, contrasting curtains can be a great way to inject some color or pattern into the space. However, it can also be difficult to get the right balance to make sure the colors and patterns don't clash!

COFFEE TABLE

The coffee table is an essential item for most living rooms, and it's wonderful to see that despite them being considered from a practical point of view, designers are becoming much more creative to the point where they can be your main statement piece and add unique visual interest. Many people opt for something more functional and then add smaller accents to the coffee table. Some ideas to consider if you want to accent your coffee table are:

Decorative trays: A decorative tray can be a great way to add smaller items on your coffee table, such as candles, books, or coasters.

Sculptural objects: Interesting sculptures or figurines can be a great conversation starter and add interest to your coffee table.

Books: Coffee table books with beautiful photography or interesting topics can be both decorative and functional.

Vintage items: Vintage items such as old cameras, globes, or typewriters can add character and charm to your coffee table.

Candles: Scented candles can create a cozy atmosphere and add a touch of elegance to your coffee table.

Terrariums: Small, low-maintenance plants in glass containers can add a touch of greenery to your coffee table.

Despite all of my advice above. Remember, the most important thing is to choose items that reflect YOUR personal style and interests!
